My friend, My Ride, My One That Got Away

Image
My friend, My Ride, My One That Got Away By E. M. Areson Alice set back looking much more like an old woman then a college sophomore should. Stress was a killer and trying to stay at the top of her class wasn’t the kind of thing that kept people calm. Grades, lectures, tests, exams! She rested her head in her hands. For some reason, her thoughts went to Bow and the life he’d offered her instead. She hadn’t thought of him since… well since last week, but it wasn’t like you forgot your closest guy friend that easily. She set back. Yes, it had been almost two years since she’d seen him last. And yeah, they weren’t exactly on the best terms when they left. But they were still friends… Weren’t they? She pulled out her phone and looked through her photos, way back. Back to the first couple pictures on her phone. There it was, a selfie Bow had taken of himself when he had swiped her new phone on the first day of freshman year of high school. She smiled, they’d known each other sinc

South to Freedom

South to Freedom By E. M. Areson South to freedom. Who would have thought anyone would ever say that? Noah wondered, he’d never had any real trouble over his dark-colored skin, he had bigger issues, but he knew his ancestors had. “Noah, you gonna’ come?” Emma asked. Noah, are you coming, he translated to himself. “Yes.” Jacob smiled, “Got ev’thang you need from Wa’mart?” “Yeah,” Noah was so out of his element. “I think you’re catching on,” Ethan said punching Noah’s shoulder. Unlike Emma and Jacob, Ethan had been outside of Texas before making it a little easier for Noah to understand him. Emma and Jacob took the cart and went to pay since neither Ethan or Noah were legally alive. Of course, a legal document filed away somewhere did little to stop your pulse. Then again with A.P.P.S. or the Agency for Protecting Personal Security, on their tails, they could never be too careful. Ethan, Jacob, and Emma were siblings and out of the three Emma was the only non-Freak

The Not-So-Perfect Date

The Not-So-Perfect Date By E. M. Areson Maggie blushed at the text. See you then ;) Richard was so cute. She’d been trying to hint that she liked him for almost three months, and he finally seemed to get it. She had casually mentioned to him she was planning on going to the park today and have a picnic. He said that sounded cool and she then asked if he’d like to come. He’d said yes! She then looked at the clock, it was 8:57. They were meeting at the school sign at eleven and we're going to walk to the park from there. She leaped out of bed and looking in her closet. She shared the closet with the other four girls in her dorm, and she had to look for a casual outfit of hers that wouldn’t look stupid. Casual wasn’t her usual, her usual was nerdy comfortable. “Val, which will look better? The blue sweater, jeans, and the white knee boots. Or the black tee shirt, jeans, and the converse? Val?” “Hmm?” Val rolled over in bed. “One. It’s too early. Two. Richard is a je

A Maze for Humans

A Maze for Humans By E. M. Areson “Isabella!” She jolted awake, “What?” “The next team is almost past the confusing hallway. We have to get going…” Liam looked a little sheepish as he added. “Also you looked like you were having a bad dream.” “Thanks, it didn’t start to bad though. I was back home, on Earth. You remember Earth?” Liam nodded and she continued as they begin to walk down more of the endless halls of the maze. “In my dream, there was this guy, I don’t even remember what he looked like, but he wanted to go out. So we went to the movies and watched this movie about people trapped in a maze. And I started to panic, then my date turned into the Announcer and started giving his usual speech about testing humanity.” “Sounds bad,” Liam played with the strings of his green drawstring bag. It held all their possessions, so basically nothing. “You know, just because we’re in the maze doesn’t mean that someone can’t, you know, like you.” She looked over, noti
